PDF for Month 7 of the Autumn Wreath Block of the Month.
This is the sixth of nine patterns to make the Autumn Wreath BOM. In it, we will make the lower border. The total lower border measures 4” by 32”. The embroideries also spill into the main part of the patchwork and this pattern relies on having completed the previous patterns. This pattern only contains the hedgehog embroidery and the lower border. It does not contain the pattern for the badgers or capercaillies block.
The quilt measures 40 by 40" and has a patchwork background with raw edge applique animals. I use no glue, paints, or fusible. Just fabric and thread. There will be a central highland cow, and four surrounding larger blocks with a highland and autumnal theme. Connecting the outer four blocks will be a wreath of autumn fauna and flora. The outer 4" of the quilt will have a slightly lighter background. The main section of the background will be warm tans, with highlights of lilacs, greens, warm pinks with touches of reds. There will be some linen with gold metallic thread.
The quilt itself is in my usual style, so it is a patchwork background with raw edge applique sewn with free motion embroidery. You don't need a fancy machine to sew it but your machine needs to be able to do free motion embroidery. The pattern contains basic instructions for the patchwork. I don't go into a lot of detail on patchwork as I am assuming that you know the basics but other than the odd half square triangle, it is all pretty simple.
Hopefully that all makes sense, but please don't hesitate to ask if anything is unclear.
